Apple Fritter Waffles with Spiced Whipped Cream
Ingredients:
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 2 large eggs
- 1 3/4 cups buttermilk
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 1/2 cups peeled and diced apples such as Granny Smith
- Vegetable oil for waffle iron
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 2 tablespoons powdered sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
Instructions:
In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt
In another bowl, beat the eggs and then add buttermilk, melted butter, and vanilla extract
Mix well
Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined
Fold in the diced apples
Preheat your waffle iron and brush it lightly with vegetable oil to prevent sticking
Pour an appropriate amount of batter onto the preheated waffle iron and cook according to the manufacturers instructions until golden brown and crisp
While the waffles are cooking, prepare the spiced whipped cream
In a mixing bowl, combine heavy cream, powdered sugar, ground cinnamon, and ground nutmeg
Whip until stiff peaks form
Serve the apple fritter waffles warm with a dollop of spiced whipped cream on top
